Charles Chuck Kunkel

Born: 9/4/1932 - Died: 6/21/2017

Charles M. Kunkel, 84, of Natrona Heights, formerly of Indiana Township, passed away, Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at St. Margaret’s Memorial Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born September 4, 1932 in Philadelphia to the late Harry E. and Anna (Diegel) Kunkel. Chuck graduated from Penn Hills High School in 1950 and attended the University of Pittsburgh, University of Colorado, Carnegie Tech, and Duquesne University. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Chuck was a design engineer for Gulf Research in Harmar Township and DuPont Analytical Companies. He was a member of Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, Natrona Heights, Knights of Columbus, Russellton, and St. Victors Men’s Club. He was a former member of Transfiguration RCC, Russellton. Chuck enjoyed traveling, woodworking, and hydroponics. He was involved with the St. Joseph High School Farm Club where he would give lectures and help students develop their own hydroponics gardens. Mr. Kunkel is survived by his wife of 10 years, Joan Kunkel; children, Monica Kunkel of Aspinwall, Gina Spangenberg of O’Hara Township, Kimberly Kunkel of Dormont, Walter Dlubak of Natrona Heights, Susan (Rick) Farabaugh of Murrysville, David (Edith) Dlubak of OH, James (Vicki) Dlubak of Sarver, Janet (Ross) Korber of Natrona Heights, and Catherine (James) Hickey of Upper Burrell; grandchildren Ana and Ethan Spangenberg, Tyler Kunkel, Abramo and Sophia Kunkel-Delduca, Erik, Denis, and Danielle Farabaugh, Mary (Bryan) Pino, David (Jana), Joseph, Cortney (Chris), and Connor Dlubak, Nicholas and Alex Korber, Jamie (Kyle) Blanton, Jennifer, Rachel, Christina, Danielle, Brian, Nicholas, Kayla, and Saleena Hickey ; great grandchildren, Nola and David Dlubak, Logan Hickey; brothers, Eugene (Carolyn) Kunkel of Penn Hills and Richard (Linda) Kunkel of WVA; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn (Marchegiano) Kunkel in 2002; his parents; siblings, Nancy and Harry Kunkel; grandson, Jacob Korber. Friends and relatives are invited to attend visitation 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm, Thursday, June 22, 2017 at the Adam Siemianowski Funeral Home, 179 Starr Road, Russellton, 15076. Christian Funeral Mass, 10 am, Friday, at Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, Natrona Heights. Everybody please meet at the church. Chuck will be laid to rest next to his first wife, Evelyn, at Deer Creek Cemetery, Harmar Township. In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorials to the St. Joseph High School Farming Club or the charity of one’s choice.
